New shows and a new studio are putting Red C Television on the map
in Central

Texas and beyond.

By Laurie Peacock Luster

Here’s another Texas original to put on the list of such: Red C
Television, Texas’ first Web based TV network and production
company. Already well known in the Waco area, owners/producers Chris
Cox and Russell Clay are extending their reach throughout Central
Texas and beyond with a new studio, new promotions and new shows
geared for local appeal and participation. Their Web based format is
cutting edge for providing original Web series and TV shows. All are
produced in Central Texas with local talent—“by local people, 4
local people”—a formula that draws in a devoted audience while
presenting a showcase of up and coming stars like singer/songwriter
Kaley Caperton.

“Good Morning with Chris & Russ” anchors the Red C TV website with a
daily dose of Red C news and topical entertainment. The show became
so popular in the Waco area that several companies banned their
employees from watching it. Cox and Clay take that as a compliment
and will be delighted for that to happen elsewhere. All Red C TV
shows can be viewed anytime, anywhere for free at RedCTV.com. There
are plenty of shows to choose from, and more in the works.

Their hit TV series, “Cowboy & Lucky” is gearing up for a second
season, airing in at least two FOX-TV markets in Texas. Cox and Clay
star in the action series that follows the misadventures of two
brothers trying their luck as bounty hunters. Caperton is featured
in the series as well.

Another recent success is short series “CH85,” an apocalyptic sci-fi
thriller and short series directed by Clay. “What’s Happening
Central Texas” with host Kurt Krakowian just launched on RedCTV.com
providing a guest interview format for local artists, bands and
non-profit organizations. Other new shows in the works are “Street
Justice,” “Interrogation,” and “Shear Makeover,” a reality show
featuring Central Texas hair salons doing personal makeovers.

Banking on local talent and the power of social media has developed
a solid fan base for Red C TV. Their website RedCTV.com gets over
300,000 hits monthly, and they have thousands of social media
followers. Promotion is done primarily through RedCTV.com, social
media and appearances by Cox and Clay at local events.

A new 4000 sq. ft. studio and a string of successful TV and web
series are the wind beneath their wings, positioning Red C TV for
more broad scale success throughout the state. “We have built a
small hillbillywood right here in the center of Texas with a whole
lot of work and a little bit of hustle,” added Cox.

Both Clay and Cox are from small town Texas. Clay grew up in
Chilicothe, near the Oklahoma border while Cox came from Chilton
just south of Waco. They met 20 years ago while working at a
manufacturing plant. “One day while half the plant ran out to check
on a car that was on fire, I stood at the backdoor and watched,”
recalls Cox. “I had only worked there a few days. Russell came up
next to me and asked what was going on. I replied, there’s a car on
fire and he said whose? I said, mine! He said Dude do you need a
ride home? We’ve been friends ever since.”

In addition to their small town backgrounds, both had the
entertainment bug. “We have always had the desire to entertain. We
like to make people laugh and feel good. It hasn’t always paid the
bills, but we love what we do and probably always will,” said Clay.
“We are a 20 year overnight success.”

Clay started out as an extra in “Walker, Texas Ranger,” then
performed utility stunts in the show. That experience inspired them
to step it up and take their chances in Los Angeles taking on acting
and production roles in various horror flicks and action thrillers,
including the action TV series “The Unjust.”

When the economy headed south in 2007 Cox and Clay returned to
Texas, drawn by family and friends. With honed talent, West Coast
production experience in hand, plus the drive to succeed, the two
came up with the concept of a Web based TV series production
company. As Clay recalls “Once we got back, the people of Central
Texas gave us the key to the city in regards to filming pretty much
anywhere!”

The two soon partnered with former Big Red Owner Don Sharp for his
expertise in sales. The results include being the first to bring
mobile alert video advertising to Central Texas with over 20,000
mobile alert subscribers. These are deals and offers from Red C TV
sponsors in video format sent via text message to subscribers. “We
have great advertising packages here locally and we‘re soon to be
statewide with local options for mobile alerts, digital signage, TV
commercials, Web banners and online commercials” Cox said. Red C TV
produces ads for their sponsors along with about any type of video
marketing one can imagine, including video blogs and the video
classified ads featured on their website. A casting call for new
shows is scheduled for August 13 at the studio located at 301 Depot
in Waco.

The possibilities of what Cox and Clay can come up with to entertain
and connect with their audience and advertisers seem endless, and
that’s what makes them tick and their shows worth watching. “We love
to entertain Texas,” said Cox. So let Red C TV entertain you and
you’ll have a real good time. Visit RedCTV.com for shows and casting
information. Tours of the studio are available by appointment.
